建厂于1825 年的Port Ellen 酒厂命运多舛，在其近160 年的历史上几经易主，虽于1925 年开始并入Diageo 集团，却因美国禁酒令的施行，于1929 年便停产直至1967 年，80 年代初期的威士忌经济泡沫更让Diageo决定于1984年正式关闭Port Ellen 蒸馏厂，仅保留麦芽制作的工序，提供麦芽给艾雷岛上其他蒸馏厂使用。尔后又一直要到2001 年，才由Diageo 包装其酒厂库存老酒，推出「限量版系列Limited Edition」，此一系列的每一个批次都是拍卖会场上炙手可热的品项。

Sweeter and much rubberier right at the start, with some typical notes of tyres, tar, pepper…It then grows more and more powerful and drier… What a body! The pepper grows even stronger after a few minutes… And the sweetness vanishes, leaving just a mixture of smoke, pepper and lemon zest that might displease the lovers of round and smooth whiskies – but not the peat heads, obviously.
