Lot 9007
A BRONZE CENSER WITH HALBERD EARS Qing Dynasty
The copper is meticulously smooth with a rouge complexion. The wide, low body of the item make it an imposing and, indeed, rare and beautiful piece. The whole body has a round mouth with a flat rim, a beam neck, and a wide abdominal which gently tapers off. The bottom features a wide circular foot which has a slightly smaller diameter than the mouth. From the outer wall protrude a pair of cylindrical halberd blade ears. On the bottom is written in three rows of characters Made in the Xuande Period of the Ming Dynasty. Halberd Blade censers originally represented peace and stability and were used by the Board of Punishments. This particular bright, patternless item will leave people in awe.
